SOFT SPOT

SANDI'S NEST oil on linen 14 x 14" NFS

I have a real soft spot for ArtReach San Diego the local not-for-profit group here in San Diego that takes artist-teachers and supplies into elementary schools so that every child gets the opportunity to make art, despite budget cuts.

So, when they had a fundraiser, I donated a painting. The winning bidder chose a nest as her subject, having loved this one (below) that sold at a show I was in last fall. Wasn’t going to paint the same painting, of course, but I was happy to oblige and create a variation on the theme. This time, a small bird’s nest for a smaller canvas, cozy with feather lining: a very soft spot to be in if you are a speckled, softly blue egg, or a downy baby bird.
